Fena: Pirate Princess Episode 1 is the limited adventure anime from Production I's Crunchyroll / Adult Swim. G. At an early age, Fena noticed that she was drifting and drifting towards a bustling island. Unfortunately for her, this island does not treat women well. And Fena soon discovers that the man who is willing to pay the highest price is ready for slavery until hunger. However, Fena is not ready to succumb to this fate and begins to plan an escape.

Fena: Pirate Princess Episode 1 takes us into the present after an opening flashback showing Fena drifting on a lifeboat and saving her from the disaster that strikes the ship. Fena, who is no longer a child, is spoken in a calm tone as of exquisite beauty. She lives in a tower and the first thing we see is sitting on a railing on the balcony as she sings to herself. The wind whips around her, catching the loose hair and the long folds of her dress in the swirling breeze. Introducing a star of the show to your audience is a graceful moment.

The show's introduction to Fena sets an almost imposing atmosphere for the character, but when Fena's friend Angie walks into the room to prepare for the first night with the man who won the auction for her body. , these emotions are quickly shattered. Fena: Pirate Princess Episode 1 describes a series of very flawed escape plans in which Fena is easily torpedoed by Angie. Fena plays the sequence like any other anime protagonist. Whenever a later idea is abandoned, Fena falls into hysteria. With her arms and legs frustrated and swaying, she settled on her final idea of escaping the island and reaching the mainland.

Fena spends the rest of the episode trying to play her escape, but that comedic aspect of her continues to be the aspect we see in the character. This version of Fena is quite good, but overall I find it quite common. Hopefully, more serious versions of the character will be seen as the show progresses. I've dealt with one of my favorite female anime characters since Production I.G, so expectations for Fena are certainly high.

Fena: The animated styling used in Pirate Princess Episode 1 provides an impressive look for the first entry in the series. While not very unique, the art permeates much of this pilot episode and provides humor that really nails graceful moments like the balcony scene with Fena. The pain the animation goes through to emphasize the elegance of a particular moment makes me think it's the Fena side that grows for the character as the show progresses.

As a first step into a new world, Fena: Pirate Princess Episode 1 brings all I can ask for. Build future story points. It has fun at the same time, while successfully establishing characters, settings, and storylines. If the show can do more it will at least be a fun adventure.

It is aired on Crunchyroll.
