Free! The plot of the last battle
Free! The Final Stroke is a continuation of the previous season of the swim-based anime series. In Season 3, protagonists Haruka Nanase and Rin Matsuoka compete in the All-Japan Invitational to qualify for the global swimming competition. Rin wins the 100m butterfly; However, Haruka loses his 200m freestyle race after succumbing to competitive pressure. But even though Haruka loses the race, he vows to become a world famous swimmer.
Season 3 perfectly sets what's to come in the final Free! movie. While there isn't much information about the film's premise, it's safe to assume that Haruka and Rin will be up against highly skilled and gifted swimmers from around the world. Based on the teasers released for the film, Haruka must overcome the pressures associated with competition, which he struggled with in Season 3.
Free! The Last Battle: Release Date and Trailer
Since the film's announcement, two teasers have been released, one on April 22 and the second on July 26. The second teaser reveals snapshots of the Free! cast prepares for a swimming competition with intense music playing in the background.
Free! The Final Stroke will be a two-part movie event. The first part will hit Japanese theaters on September 17 this year, and the second film will be released on April 22 next year. An international release date has not yet been announced. However, since Funimation got a screening of Take Your Marks in US theaters on March 14, 2018, there's plenty of reason to be hopeful that The Final Stroke will receive similar treatment.

The poster above was released along with the new free trailer! The Final Stroke, with Haruka, Rin and Ikuya Kirishima leading the way and many of the others Free! characters in the background. The film will also feature a remake of the opening track of the third season, "Heading to Over - Version: Free-" by Japanese rock group OLDCODEX. A CD with the song will be released on September 15. Also Eisaku Kawanami, the director of Free! films, he returns as director of the final film.
