Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid S Episode 7

The dragon maid comes out into the shopping street and meets Elma, and they discuss how they've gotten used to human life. The conversation is adjacent to other buyers, and it's clear to the paying viewer that episode production takes up a huge range of additional character designs. Watch an elderly woman go by slowly. Three schoolgirls wear what they think is a traditional Japanese bow, a mother pushes a stroller, and two boys hang out. It emphasizes the theme of shared existence that the segment focuses on. The moment itself is small (and, indeed, the message), but it shows Kyoto Animation's attention to detail.

The other two segments were also a lot of fun, but for different reasons. I was disappointed when Fafnir focused on this last week with hardly any rewards, but this time I see a bloody dragon trying to make his own doujin for Comiket. Knowing that even Fafnir sells sex, he brings his friend Dragon's companion Lucoa to the model ... he has no idea how to use it. What began as a re-enactment of Lucoa and Shota's relationship becomes vaguely erotic (or he makes them naughty) because Fafnir seems to have feelings about Lucor's general behavior towards Shota. I don't know how to write it). When the doujinshi was informed, Shota quickly transformed into Junji Ito's Soichi Tsujii. But despite his best efforts, poor Fafnir couldn't sell his scary doujinshi, and Lucoa completely sold his cosplay book (she does, of course!). Other than that, it was nice to see Fafnir doing something right and forming a little bond with Lucoa.

The last segment refocused on Kanna and Sankara. This time my classmates are going to investigate the ghost story for homework. This was another moment where the animation really stood out, especially during impromptu soccer games. This may also be the first time that Kanna notices a direct reference to the Ainu. I've always wondered if her character design was based on Ainu clothing, but I wasn't aware of any other mention in the past. During this segment, when the kids started talking about ghost investigations, Kanna imagines a ritual involving the death of a bear and says “romance!”.

If you want to know more about the ritual of romance, you can read it here. I would honestly like to know if the Kanna and Ainu connections are an interesting way for creators to refer to Ainu culture, or if the characters themselves have some interest.

It's a great episode for the show, and hopefully, it will be more similar later in the season.
